So my Tennis score is about 2200 now. I'm off the charts good now. I'm somewhat satisfied by this.

Wii Golf tips from a software writer who I like:

http://software.ericsink.com/entries/SecretsPart1.html

The intro is pretty good.

I bought Elevator Action, F-Zero and TECMO BOWL! Few games shaped the person I am today more than Tecmo Bowl. I have no way to back that statement up but it's a great game. 4 plays: 2 run 2 pass. What more do you need? If you know who the stars are you can't lose because they're so overpowered. With the original LT you can block any FG or PAT for example.

Elevator Action is about as impossible as I remember it. I made my way down the building a few times before the army of goons eventually got off a lucky shot. They need to release the TMNT game for the arcade, Punch Out!, Ninja Gaiden and Rygar. I'll need these games to ignore my child when he or she grows up. Wii Tennis won't be able to hold my attention long enough for that.

Welcome to the Post-Christian West! Where women are treated equally by men and people act morally without someone putting the fear of God in them to be good people! Oh wait.

http://www.thisislondon.co.uk/news/article-23388098-details/Women+for+sale+in+the+Gatwick+slave+auctions/article.do

So much for those dreams of an egalitarian atheist society. Oops! Who would have guessed that without a moral structure that can't be altered at will that people would do such things? This is something that's been on the rise for awhile now and I think it's about ready to explode into a major crisis. I know that this sort of thing goes on here but it is definitely underneath the radar. We're typically 20-30 years behind the rest of Europe on social trends so who knows how long it will be before we see some major revelation that the moral grounding for our society is just gone.

I think that people who wish for a more atheist society often fall into that trap of reasoning where you think that by changing one thing in a complex structure that everything else will stay the same. Social engineers dreaming of socialized medicine or anti-poverty programs often make the same mistake. Visit a hospital in a country where there is socialized medicine and you'll quickly see what happens when you remove real incentives for quality from the health care industry. Removing traditional moral structures and replacing them with nothing can and has lead to very horrible results. You might not have to hear from people like Falwell (which I'd be happier with as well for the record) but is that worth the price that these women have to pay?

Anyone who would shoot a family dog is just someone I don't want to be in any position of authority in our society.
I like my Wii

We got a Wii about a week and a half ago now and I have to say it's the best game system I've had since the Super Nintendo. I like the Dual Screen a lot but the Wii is even better.

I have enjoyed Wii Sports more than I thought I would have originally. I was playing it exclusively even though I had 4 other games to play. The Madden game is just great. I haven't played Madden since maybe the second Madden game so I'm a bit behind but the Wii controls are tons of fun. You swing the controller back to snap the ball and swing it forward to throw it. You also shake the nunchuk to break tackles and fight for extra yards. To call for a fair catch you swing the controller around your head. I wasn't expecting to like it much but I'm glad I have it. I played Rayman a bit and other than the rhythm game which is pure evil I like it a lot. So far I have shot plungers at bunnies wild west style, run with a package that was about to blow up, used the remote to draw food for a bunny to eat and thrown a cow for distance. Though I did realize that if I end up in hell I will be playing rhythm games for all eternity. I love the idea but I just never seem to understand what the games want from me. Though for some reason I am excited about the DDR game for the Wii.

The best game though has to be Warioware: Smooth Moves. It's one of those games where you can tell that the people who made it had a lot of fun. The explanation for how to work the controller for the various mini-games are great, the tempo is fun and the effects are classic. There is tons to do and unlock. I loved the Warioware game for the Gameboy Advance and this one is even more fun. You have about 2 seconds to figure out how to solve a mini game before you die and have to move on. It's tough but when you get into a groove it's not so bad. The jokes are actually funny unlike many games that try for humor and just mess it up badly.

I'm encouraged that the Wii seems to be outselling the PS3 by a lot. Though I can't imagine why anyone would buy a PS3 to be honest. I'm not sure how it is doing against the X-Box 360 at this point but I think that the Wii will win out in the end and be the dominate system. I'm glad to see Nintendo get the market back from Sony and Microsoft and hopefully this time they will keep it.

We saw a little blob hanging out at the bottom of her womb that had a heartbeat. Baby's heartbeat was around 170 beats per second. We found out that Marissa is 9 weeks and 1 day (not sure how they came up with that) pregnant now. She is due on August 21st. Neat stuff.

What would you like to have in 2007 that you lacked in 2006?
Not sure really.

7. What date from 2006 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
Nothing comes to mind.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Being made a partner in my company.

9. What was your biggest failure?
Not sure.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
I was sick as hell when I was in Australia.

11. What was the best thing you bought?
My Treo.

12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
Marissa. She got baptized!

13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
Not sure really.

14. Where did most of your money go?
House!

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Being made partner in my company.

16. What song will always remind you of 2006?
Not sure. This wasn't a very musical year for me.

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:

i. Happier or sadder?
Happier.

ii. Thinner or fatter?
Thinner.

iii. richer or poorer?
Richer.

18. How will you be spending Christmas?
No idea.

23. How many one-night stands?
Zero.

24. What was your favorite TV program?
The Wire. Best. Show. Ever.

25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
Nah.

26. What was the best book you read?
"Art and Decadence" by Camille Paglia.

27. What was your greatest musical discovery?
I'm not sure I made any sadly :(

28. What did you want and get?
A nice phone and got one.

29. What was your favorite film of this year?
The Science of Sleep.

31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I went to dinner with a group some of my favorite people. We went to Tu Y Yo. That's seriously the best restaurant in the area which is saying a lot.

33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2006?
Business Casual?

34. What kept you sane?
Jesus.

35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Eh.

36. What political issue stirred you the most?
Where to even begin. I guess probably the war in Iraq because it's the most obvious example of our imperialist nature. Lately I've been annoyed with the lie of the Consumer Price Index but that's not a new topic really.

37. Who did you miss?
Nick, Laura, Chuck, Linda. All in NYC? WTF?

38. Who was the best new person you met?
I think I spent more time reconnecting with people I already knew.

39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2006:
God does absolutely amazing things for those who trust him.

40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:
"I'm finally getting hip to the American ruse."

Those who belive that the secular left is defined in part by its belief in science should pay attention to how news like this is processed by institutions defined in part by their supposed devotion tosecular scientific attitudes. I don't see any difference between those who deny evolution and those who believe in socialism or those who believe that differences between men and women are due to socialization (have these people ever seen a stand-up comedian?). Diversity is obviously not a virtue that has been held in high esteem over the course of human history and it would seem that there are good reasons for this. Oops.

When human nature squares off against human will the results are often quite disturbing. One can look to the history of socialism, drug laws, gambling laws and prostitution laws for excellent examples of this pattern. That's the reason why I have no more sympathy for social conservatives than I do for socialists. I don't see them any different really. They're both bumping against a force that is too strong to control.
